On Christmas Eve 2004, Mie and Kei, on a break prior to the final leg of their successful two year long concert tour were the guests of honor on a TV show called “Pink Lady: Stormy Life Special” (at least that’s what I was told the title was from the fan who sent me the DVD, however, I kind of thought it was fitting). The show was, to put it succinctly, a version of This Is Your Life, and it was exactly that as it featured a telemovie recounting Mie and Kei’s history, from birth through childhood, high school years to their whirlwind career as Japan’s most famous pop music group. With the help of actresses portraying Mie and Kei from toddlers through their mid 20’s, the movie was an absolutely fascinating and, at times, gripping biographical drama that took viewers on a wild ride through the history of the two remarkable women who became the legendary Pink Lady. Having watched the special, I learned things about the Ladies that I never knew before, and so will you as you’ll discover facets about Mie and Kei that will surprise you, maybe even shock you. In fact, this show was so rich with material, I devoted a full eight pages for your viewing pleasure, and I assure you, it’ll be more than worth it. Now, before you launch into this feature, I must warn you that half a dozen popular celebrities of the day shared the stage with Mie and Kei and throughout the entire show when the movie was being shown, a small insert in the lower right hand corner of the screen, sort of like picture-in-picture, showed said celebrities watching the film and their reactions to same, something I found to have been bottomlessly annoying because I had no idea why they were shown in the first place, but that’s just me. If you can get past those inserts in the 160 captures I’ve presented, you’ll certainly enjoy this pink hued stroll down memory lane.
